Chances Of Hope - Background
Team Formacon started in 2017 and we didn’t know a whole lot about running a cycling team, but we have been learning very fast. We started the team because we like riding and racing our bikes, but also because we saw an opportunity to give back through supporting Chances of Hope.
We do this by giving 50% of everything we raise to Chances of Hope and by helping to create awareness for them.
In 2017 and 2018 we raised a combined R240 000-00 for Chances of Hope and we are more proud of that, than of the races we’ve won this year!
In 2018 we expanded the team by adding Elite riders and also establishing a team in the VC category, the 50 – 59 year old racers.
In 2019 we are going to expand even further by adding riders to both those categories and budget permitting, also to the VA bunch.
We have also invested in two team managers which means we will have two follow cars in the races for both the Elite and VC categories.
Our vision is a world in which every person will have a chance of hope. Even in the most remote areas of South Africa, every person should hold the power to create an opportunity for themselves and others within a loving environment.
Mission Statement
Our mission is nothing less than realising the full potential of every person by inspiring people throughout the world to realise their own abilities. We aim to help people to open their hearts and minds, to accept and include people with diverse backgrounds and thereby give one another a chance of hope.
Where does Chances of Hope Help
Chances of Hope reaches out into the South African rural areas, specifically in the Northern Cape and Karoo. The emphasis is on remote areas where there is not much traffic, where people may feel desperate or without hope. Chances of Hope aims to be light in their darkness.
Chances of Hope - Financial Background
The cost to run the team for a year totals R150 000-00 excl VAT. This allows for 3 x sets of team kit per rider, some allocation for travel and logistics; and race entry fees for an estimated 15 races throughout the year.
As in 2018 we will give 50% of each Rand earned to COH, and we will be looking at various other opportunities to raise funds for COH
